Vagary/Sanctuary/Workshops

Hello, and welcome to December’s blog post from ArtStudioCB! To get started I’ll be writing about the ‘Vagary,’ exhibition being held in virtual reality at the Metaverse, Circular Artspace, Bristol. I’m excited about this exhibition, as I’ve never had one in virtual reality before, and there’s the potential for anyone with an internet connection, anywhere in the world to visit. I’m also keen to start developing immersive art in my practice, so I will learn a lot from the experience. Audiences will find art-works exploring female fertility, experience, and identity through symbolism and abstraction. There will be paintings, mixed media, and collage on display. It’s an opportunity to experience one of my art exhibitions from the comfort of your mobile, lap top, or desktop. That means you don’t require a VR headset to see the exhibit. The exhibit runs from 6pm- 2nd December to 15th December. I look forward to seeing you there. To join the Facebook event, click here.

In other updates, my first short film ‘Sanctuary’ had its first screening at a film festival. Shown at Lift-Off First Time Film Maker Sessions, I had great feed back. Created as satire, ‘Sanctuary’ is about Sarah Saveloy who intends to enter state sanctuary, but does she have ulterior motives? The script for this film sat on a shelf for three years, before I decided to make the film in one day. Creative ideas can nag and nag at us, until we decide to do something about it. I learned so much from making this short film, and hope to collaborate with others in the future.

In November I ran a textiles workshop, which was great fun and the participants enjoyed themselves. We looked at how to create stencils of a design, working with stitch, and textile paints. Coming up 13th December there will be a lino printing, Christmas wrapping paper workshop, at the Cynon Valley Museum. Booking is essential so please ring 01685 886729.

I also attended the Culture Change Leadership Programme in November. A five day programme, I had the opportunity to meet my peers from the global majority, network, learn, and discuss issues such as why the arts and culture sector has failed to diversify. It was a great experience, and I got to spend some time in an area of Cardiff I grew up in called Tiger Bay, where the event was held.

It is the festive season, and I’m wishing you a great time over the holidays. Unfortunately, due a technical problem, I will not be able to launch the ArtStudioCB shop on 1st December as planned. All the art-works in the Vagary project are available for sale, but you will need to visit the Circular Artspace, exhibition to purchase. Again, however you choose to spend the season, either with family and friends, or independently, I wish you a Merry Christmas and happy winter solstice.

Thank you for reading! Visit on 1st January for the next post and sign up to the newsletter for updates.
