To Capture A Star
‘To Capture A Star,’ is a poetry collection that Candice Black began creating in 2015. She began by hand stamping her poem ‘To Capture A Star,’ into a pamphlet, and continued to work into her poetry by attending a local creative writing group in 2021. With encouraging feedback and supportive critique, she was able to grow in confidence and publish an ebook in 2023.
Attending a local creative writing group helped to develop her poetry and connect with the community. It provided an environment where she could test her ideas and she found that she wrote new poetry often. It was, however, a number of years before ‘To Capture A Star,’ took form as an ebook.
Lavender
When you spot lavender
Growing in a garden,
Do you rub its lilac
Petals in your fingers?
Do you know the flower’s
Potent, deep, sweet scent well?
Or added essential oil
To a running hot bath?
Taken its fragrance in
Because you are worried,
And your spirits lifted
By the press of its petals?
Has it carried you through
Times of turmoil in life,
Comforting bad nerves
And soothing memories.
Lavender, with its will,
Has made notes of my fears,
Asked me to relax,
Then whispered pass it on.
