About
‘Sanctuary,’ began as a script Candice Black wrote in 2021, and sat on a shelf for three years. Frustrated by the lack of resources to make the short film she wanted to make, she chose to create the film in one day with what she had available.
She shot the film on a mobile phone, and used basic photography equipment such as a green screen backdrop to create the effects used. It was edited in Canva.
With a completed short film project, she decided to enter it into independent film festivals via FilmFreeway, to gauge responses.
Candice Black was nervous to enter the film into festivals, because she had created it herself and wondered how judges would respond. To create a film in one day with very little in the way of a budget, that is experimental, and compete against other films, is challenging. However, she enjoyed the process of submitting ‘Sanctuary,’ and her experimentation gained great feedback with positive responses.
