This course will provide an experimental exercise for creating a composition for an abstract art-work, and guidance on applying mixed media art materials, resulting in a vibrant art-work. The techniques are suitable for beginners, allow for free flow expression, and spontaneity. As a visual artist, I facilitate creative workshops, and aim to provide tools and guidance for creating art-works. This course is suitable for beginners.
Abstract art means different things to different people. Here we will be creating mixed media abstract art-work, incorporating different art materials. We will look at creating a non-figurative artwork (that is it doesn’t represent a real world object or person) that explores line, shape, colour, and rhythm. Suitable materials include paper, coloured paper, watercolour, acrylic, maker pens, tracing paper, and pencils. If these art-materials are not available, try to get a sense of the process, and experiment with what materials you have available. If you’re looking for a reputable retailer of art supplies, I can recommend ARTdiscount. As an affiliate, I promote their art supplies and services, and would receive a commission if you choose to purchase. Their art materials and services have supported me in my art-practice, and find them good value and excellent quality.
With the techniques and guidance from this course, you will be able to create a variety of mixed media abstract art-works. In my own art-practice, I experiment and use these techniques to create new art-works, and I have overcome creative block as a result. I hope you enjoy the Mixed Media Abstract Art Course!
