Frequently Asked Questions

1) What kind of art do you make?

I work across a variety of mediums including oil paints, collage, mixed media, lino print, screen print, photography, stitch, prose, poetry, and dance. I create paintings, prints, photographs, poems, prose, textiles, works on paper, film, and more.

My art-work explores trauma, somatic experience, and hope. I make room for humour and make bold, colourful art-works, incorporating the imagination. Creating authentic art is important to me, and whilst I draw influence from other artists and the world around me, I make art that is in tune with my lived experience.

I aim to create art-works that audiences can connect with, and that inspires creativity.

2) How long does it take you to make your art?

I often have a lot of ideas and I enjoy experimenting with different techniques. This means that I work at a quick pace. This is so that I’m able to explore as many creative projects as possible.  I’m an independent artist, meaning that I work alone, but I intend to collaborate on future projects.

I set myself goals such as creating thirty art-works in six months, for example. This is so that I have new work to exhibit, to build momentum, and move past the dreaded creative block.

3) Where do you sell your art?

My art-work is available for sale from www.artstudiocb.com, galleries, craft fairs, Blurb, Threadless, and Zazzle.

4) How do you price your art?

Each art-work is the culmination of imagination, research, technique, materials, administration, education, and inspiration. It is understood that artists and writers experience difficulties in earning a minimum wage, and are routinely underpaid and undervalued. It is also a common occurrence that artists do not charge enough for their art. It’s my intention to earn an income from my art as a professional artist and writer, and the price of my art-work and services reflects this.

Where as artificial intelligence can be utilised as a tool to make our work lives a little easier, A.I art is trained on the work of creatives, using their copyrighted art-work without permission. I believe that when audiences look to art they are looking for human connection and an understanding of life’s big questions. It is my view that A.I. fails in this regard, and is undermining the livelihoods of creative people.

Whilst my art-works are mostly free to view and appreciate, the sale of art is a challenging process, and each sale matters.

5) What experience do you have?

As a mixed-race, disabled, Welsh, female: my creative work has been a life-line through challenging experiences.

I believe in creativity, empowerment, and the human spirit. I do what I do because creativity benefits the individual, groups, and wider society.

I’m from Wales, and have lived in England whilst attending college and university. I studied fashion and textiles, before moving into art and becoming an artist.

Art and artists have inspired me since I was a child, when I would visit museums as a little girl. I was grounded in art by community artists who would work with me to use a variety of materials to produce art that often went on display locally. In recent years, I have focused on trauma as a personal experience, and how it relates to the mind and body.
