Accessibility
Working with the social model of disability, that wider society creates barriers rather than the individual being disabled by difference, accessibility is approached from the perspective that creative works can be experienced and received in a multitude of ways.
As an artist with long-term mental health conditions, I understand that accessing art and creative works in gallery spaces can be daunting, for example. Whilst I tell myself I have a right to access these spaces, I’m all too aware of their history, which causes difficulties in itself.
The aim is to increase access to these works for all individuals and groups and build an understanding of the barriers faced. This will include audio descriptions, additional text to be utilised by screen readers, and British Sign Language soon.
I am happy to accept feedback from audiences about the accessibility of these art-works and ArtStudioCB. I would welcome it, should they wish to contact me. I’m currently taking advice on increasing the accessibility here at ArtStudioCB, and as adaptions are made, I will post updates. Please sign up to the newsletter for more information soon.
